Welcome to Sunday in a Sip. It's May 4th, 2025. Today is the first Sunday in May, May the 4th be with you. This week in review marks the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon, which occurred on April 30, 1975. So, find your calm like a quiet morning in the city of Hội An, take a mindful breath like a sip of cà phê sữa đá, (iced milk coffee) and let your thoughts wander through this week’s most captivating stories and enduring gems. Let’s sip slowly, reflect deeply, and honor the moments that matter—curated with intention, connected by heart, and shared with soul
You can now listen to Sunday in a sip.

U.S. Economy

Friday’s economic data painted a resilient picture for the U.S. economy, with the April jobs report in particular easing some recession concerns. Stronger than expected job numbers adding 177,000 new jobs in April. The unemployment rate held steady at 4.2%. People are getting paid more with Wages that grew at a steady 3.8% year-over-year pace, and Consumer spending is remaining strong, with March spending up 0.7% and personal income rising 0.5%. Inflation showed signs of cooling with the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index up 2.3% year-over-year, and core PCE (excluding food and energy) rose 2.6% year-over-year, both down from February. This great news caused Stock markets to respond positively to the data and strong tech earnings, with major indices extending their winning streaks. Recovering the losses since liberation day. So for now the economy continues to hold up. Drink up sippers.

U.S. News

100 Days wake up

In his first 100 days, President Donald Trump has moved aggressively to reshape federal policy, relying heavily on executive authority and rapid reversals of Biden-era initiatives. President Trump’s first 100 days have been marked by a sweeping and controversial use of executive power, rapid policy reversals, and a focus on immigration enforcement and deregulation. Trump did more in terms of the sheer number and speed of executive actions and policy reversals in his first 100 days than Biden, reshaping federal policy at a record pace.

Here are the key accomplishments and actions that have defined this period:

  • Trump has issued 142 executive orders since January 20, 2025, surpassing Franklin D. Roosevelt’s historic record of 99 in his first 100 days. These orders have targeted a wide range of issues-reducing the size of the federal government, tightening border security, imposing tariffs, and rolling back environmental and diversity policies.

  • Reversal of Biden Policies - President Trump rescinded 78 Biden executive actions.

  • Trump has invoked the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to expedite deportations. The administration has dramatically expanded immigration detention, with the detained population nearing 50,000 and plans to double that figure.

  • Trump has worked with Congress to enact 28 new laws during the first 100 days, the most since President Truman. Notably, the Laken Riley Act and a continuing appropriations act were signed, reflecting a legislative focus on crime and government funding.

  • Government Restructuring and Deregulation - Trump established the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, to reduce wasteful spending and eliminate excessive regulations. He signed an order freezing new regulations and federal hiring, and downsizing or elimination of wasteful blotted federal departments.

  • Energy and Climate Policy - Trump ended the federal electric vehicle mandate, revoked climate-related executive orders, expanded domestic drilling (including in Alaska), and withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Accords for the second time.

  • Restoration of the federal death penalty and resumption of the U.S.–Mexico border wall construction.

  • Declared English the official language of the U.S., though the practical impact is limited by existing laws.

What would you like to see President Trump focus on in the next 100 day?

NBA Playoffs First Round: Cavs Crush, Warriors Roar, and Chaos Reigns

The first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs is serving up the kind of drama, dominance, and outright demolition that New York hoops fans live for. From historic blowouts to nail-biting finishes, here’s your courtside seat to all the action as the chase for the Larry O’Brien Trophy heats up.

Cleveland Cavaliers Make Playoff History

Let’s start with the carnage in Cleveland. The Cavaliers didn’t just sweep the Miami Heat-they set a new NBA record for first-round brutality, outscoring the Heat by an eye-watering 122 points across four games. The exclamation point? A 138-83 Game 4 demolition that left Miami looking like they’d rather be on South Beach than on the court. The Heat, who made history as the first 10-seed to reach the playoffs, were outclassed from the opening tip. By halftime, the Cavs led 72-33, and the only thing missing was a mercy rule. Darius Garland and Evan Mobley ran circles around a Heat squad that looked lost without Jimmy Butler, while Tyler Herro’s 1-for-10 shooting night summed up Miami’s misery.

Warriors Outslug Rockets in Chippy Showdown

Out West, the Golden State Warriors are reminding everyone why you never count out a battle-tested squad. In a Game 4 slugfest against the Houston Rockets, the Warriors eked out a 109-106 win to take a commanding 3-1 series lead. Jimmy Butler returned from injury to drop 27 points, and Brandin Podziemski exploded for a playoff career-high 26. The game wasn’t short on fireworks-Draymond Green and Steph Curry both picked up technicals after a dust-up with Dillon Brooks, and the final minute was pure chaos. Butler’s clutch free throws sealed it, while the Rockets’ last-ditch efforts clanged off the rim.

Thunder and Cavs Sweep, Knicks and Celtics on the Brink

The Oklahoma City Thunder, led by MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, made quick work of the Memphis Grizzlies, completing a sweep and booking their spot in Round 2. In the East, the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks are both up 3-1 in their series, putting the Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons on life support. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are rolling for Boston, while the Knicks are showing the kind of grit that makes the Garden faithful believe.

Nuggets-Clippers: The Only Toss-Up in Town

If you’re looking for a series with real suspense, check out the Denver Nuggets and LA Clippers. They’re tied 2-2 after trading haymakers, including an overtime thriller and a buzzer-beating putback dunk from Aaron Gordon. With Nikola Jokic and Kawhi Leonard going toe-to-toe, this one’s got Game 7 written all over it.

Let’s talk over a cup of coffee.

The Cavs are making history, the Warriors are flexing their playoff pedigree, and the rest of the field is scrambling to keep up. If the first round is any indication, we’re in for a wild ride all the way to June. Buckle up, NBA fans-this postseason is just getting started.

KEEP GOING! YOU’RE PROBABLY JUST ONE MELTDOWN AWAY FROM SUCCESS

Sometimes, life feels like it’s tossing every possible obstacle right in your face. That voice you hear is daring you to give up. That is exactly what life’s plan has in store for you, and here is a secret, that's precisely when you have to push harder. It’s summed up in one word PERSISTENT.

When you're chasing a big goal, like making the team, starting a business, or taking a challenging class, and the universe seems to "test" you. It’s not just bad luck. It’s a way of seeing how serious you really are. You might feel like quitting. You might even wonder if your dream is impossible, don’t expect life to just hand it over with a bow.

Every time you choose to keep going, you’re not just getting closer to your goal, you’re getting stronger, smarter, and tougher.

Winners don’t quit when things get ugly. They learn new skills, make hard choices, and build muscles they didn’t even know they had.

Let’s talk about setbacks, they are just life’s weird way of asking, "You sure you want this?"
I am telling you, that it’s your chance to yell back, "HECK YES!"
That’s how you grow into the person who can handle the success you’re working for.

So, do things feel hard right now?

GOOD. That means you're in the middle of the test, and if you stay persistent, you're way closer to winning than you think.

The universe doesn’t hate you. It’s trying to see if you’re serious. Now, go out there and show it you are.
