Welcome to Sunday in a Sip. It's January 11th, 2026. Tomorrow is National Pharmacist Day. This day is set aside to recognize and appreciate the vital contributions of pharmacists in the healthcare system. Let’s express our gratitude to pharmacists for their role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications, providing valuable healthcare advice, and contributing to community well-being. Here is a cup of the best to the best. If you are going to pick up your prescription tomorrow, don’t forget to thank the pharmacist, take a photo of you both, and post it with the hashtag #LoveMyPharmacist

The U.S. Economy

Sturdy Growth on the Horizon.

If you’ve been worried about the financial forecast, you can breathe a little easier this morning. New reports released late this week from major financial outlooks, including Goldman Sachs, are projecting "sturdy" growth for the U.S. economy in 2026. The GDP is expected to accelerate to around 2.6%, fueled largely by recent tax cuts and easing financial conditions. Even better news? The inflation headache seems to be subsiding, with the Federal Reserve projected to cut interest rates down to the 3-3.25% range later this year. While the job market remains a bit stagnant, the overall vibe from Wall Street to Main Street is cautiously optimistic.

World News

A Year of "Subdued" Resilience.

On the global stage, the mood is one of quiet perseverance. The United Nations released its World Economic Situation and Prospects 2026 report on Thursday, forecasting global growth at 2.7%. While that’s steady, it’s still below pre-pandemic levels, as the world continues to navigate the ripple effects of conflicts in Ukraine and ongoing trade frictions. China is stabilizing with a projected 4.6% growth, but geopolitical tensions remain a key theme to watch. In cooler news, cultural exchange continues to thrive, with international arts tours like the Grand Kyiv Ballet making waves in the U.S. this month.

U.S. News

The Laws of the Land Changed Jan. 1st.

We are ten days into the new year, which means we are officially living under a host of new state laws. In California, a major overhaul of reproductive health rights just kicked in, mandating broader insurance coverage for IVF treatments. Meanwhile, Minnesota’s new Paid Leave law is now in effect, offering workers a safety net for medical and family emergencies. Over on the East Coast, New York has raised its minimum wage again as part of a scheduled hike, and Pennsylvania has officially enacted the CROWN Act to combat hair discrimination. It’s a year of new rules—make sure you know which ones apply to you!

Sports

The Unlikely Championship Showdown.

College football fans, pick your jaws up off the floor. The matchup for the 2026 College Football Playoff National Championship is officially set, and it’s one for the history books. On January 19, the #1 ranked Indiana Hoosiers will face off against the #10 Miami Hurricanes. Indiana punched their ticket by dominating Oregon, while Miami secured their spot in a nail-biter against Ole Miss. The game will be played at Hard Rock Stadium, giving Miami a rare "home game" advantage for the title. It’s the Hoosiers’ Cinderella season vs. the return of "The U"—get your popcorn ready for next Monday

The World of Entertanimant

Sequels and Scares.

The box office is waking up from its holiday slumber with a mix of high-stakes drama and horror. Moviegoers are buzzing about the upcoming release of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, hitting theaters next Friday, Jan. 16. It’s the long-awaited continuation of the zombie saga, starring Ralph Fiennes. If you prefer disaster flicks, Greenland 2: Migration is also on the slate this month. For those looking for something a bit more controversial, the biopic Melania is sparking plenty of conversation in industry circles. Whether you’re streaming or heading to the theater, January is serving up plenty of reasons to escape reality for a few hours.

The 83rd Golden Globe Awards air tonight, Jan. 11, at 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT on CBS. Watch live on Paramount+ with Showtime.

Pour Over Life

Is Your Advocacy Helping or Hurting?

The Fine Line Between Justice and Noise.

It often begins with good intentions. Maybe it’s a flyer, a meeting, or a shared belief that we’re doing the right thing. Social justice, human rights, and community welfare are big ideas that sound good, especially when everyone in the room agrees.

But somewhere along the way, belief quietly turns into assumption, and assumption hardens into doctrine.

I’ve seen people, good people, take on false beliefs, not out of cruelty, but because they think acting quickly justifies being careless. Groups form with names that sound protective, like ICE Watch. These names suggest safety, vigilance, and moral clarity. But often, what actually happens is more exposure, more tension, and more danger, especially for the people these groups say they want to protect.

Caring isn’t the problem. The real issue is confusing confrontation with compassion.

When neighbors start watching each other, when social media spreads suspicion, and when outrage is seen as a sign of virtue, people end up in difficult situations. The lines between right and wrong blur. Fear grows. Misinformation spreads faster than the truth. Suddenly, the community stops feeling safe and starts to feel tense and overwhelming.

Real help doesn’t stir things up. It calms and steadies.

True advocacy doesn’t need hostility; it needs clear thinking. Calming things down isn’t giving up—it’s a smart approach. It’s the difference between protecting people’s dignity and putting them in danger by mistake. Justice that relies on chaos isn’t real justice; it’s just noise pretending to be something better.

Progress doesn’t come from panic. It comes from patience, careful judgment, and the courage to question the group, even when everyone else is sure they’re right.

Good intentions do not guarantee good outcomes. If your version of justice endangers people, fuels hostility, or sacrifices truth for volume, it’s time to pause, cool the fire, and remember that real change begins with responsibility, not rage.
