Welcome to Sunday in a Sip. It's March 1st , 2026. Rabbit! Wow, we are beginning the third month of the year, and there is so much going on. The Full Worm Moon (also known as Sugar Moon or Lenten Moon) for March 2026 occurs on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 6:38 A.M. ET. This full moon is notable for a Total Lunar Eclipse (a "Blood Moon") visible in North America, particularly in the early morning hours. Last night, a rare "planetary parade" featuring six planets, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, aligned in the western sky shortly after sunset. If you missed it you may be able to catch it tonight out of alignment.

The U.S. Economy
The 10% Tipping Point
This week, the "emergency" 10% global import surcharge officially went into effect, sending shockwaves through supply chains from Savannah to Seattle. While the administration argues the move is a necessary correction for the $1.2 trillion trade deficit, retail giants are already flagging "inventory anxiety" for the spring season. In a strange twist, the stock market showed surprising resilience; investors seem to be betting on domestic manufacturers to fill the gap, leading to a late-week surge in American industrial stocks.
Gold’s Rally: Gold successfully broke through the psychologically critical $5,100 and $5,200 resistance levels this week. The surge is largely credited to "safe-haven" buying as investors react to the expiration of the New START nuclear treaty and the debut of the Board of Peace, which has signaled a shift in traditional global alliances.
Oil’s Volatility: WTI saw a sharp climb mid-week, peaking near $71 due to U.S.–Iran tensions before cooling slightly to the current $67 level. The dip at the end of the week was caused by a surprising 16-million-barrel jump in U.S. crude inventories, which temporarily offset the "war premium" on prices.
The "Tariff Effect": The Supreme Court's ruling against the previous tariff structure caused a brief dip in the dollar, which traditionally makes dollar-denominated assets like gold more attractive to international buyers.
World News
The Brussels-DC Cold Front
The diplomatic rift between the U.S.-led Board of Peace and European allies widened this week. While the Board announced a new $5 billion reconstruction plan for Gaza, several EU leaders held a "shadow summit" in Brussels to discuss strategic autonomy. The expiration of the New START Treaty also loomed large, as satellite imagery became the primary tool for nuclear monitoring in the absence of formal inspections. It’s a new era of "trust but verify from space," and the atmosphere is notably chilly.
Today saw global tensions reach a fever pitch as the U.S. and Israel launched coordinated "major combat operations" against Iran. Targeted strikes hit multiple cities, including the capital, Tehran, in a dramatic escalation following months of nuclear and ballistic missile disputes. President Trump characterized the offensive as an "annihilation" of threats to international security, a move that immediately triggered retaliatory missile launches toward northern Israel. The conflict has sent shockwaves through the global community, with Gulf Arab states reporting secondary explosions and major energy chokepoints bracing for potential disruptions.
U.S. News
The State of the Union "Golden Age"
This week, President Trump took to the rostrum to deliver the longest State of the Union address in American history, clocking in at 1 hour and 48 minutes. Declaring that the nation has entered a new “Golden Age” as it approaches its 250th anniversary, the President painted a picture of a historic "turnaround for the ages." Much of the speech focused on a victory lap for his economic policies, specifically citing the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" for lowering taxes on tips and Social Security, while also highlighting a reported 56% drop in fentanyl flow and a sharp decline in illegal border crossings. In a signature blend of policy and showmanship, he honored the gold medal-winning U.S. men's Olympic hockey team and awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor to a 100-year-old veteran. While Republicans met the speech with raucous applause, Democrats remained largely silent, with some members vocally protesting and even being escorted from the chamber. Beyond the walls of the Capitol, the reception remains split. The administration touts a 1.7% inflation rate for late 2025. The "Golden Age of America is now upon us.
The search for Nancy Guthrie took a high-tech turn this week. Investigators are now utilizing "lifestyle forensics," analyzing encrypted data and localized Bluetooth signals to piece together her final known movements. With the reward for her safe return now sitting at a staggering $1 million, the Guthrie family made an emotional plea during a national broadcast on Friday. Meanwhile, on the infrastructure front, the "Connect America" rail project hit a major milestone, officially laying the first high-speed tracks in the Vegas-to-LA corridor.
Meanwhile, in the Northeast, a powerful late-winter nor'easter snarled travel and left thousands without power, serving as a frosty reminder that winter isn't quite finished with the East Coast just yet.
Sports
A Swing into the Spring
The golf world transitioned into its vibrant "Florida Swing" this week, with the Cognizant Classic at PGA National taking center stage. The grueling "Bear Trap" lived up to its reputation, testing the nerves of the field as they chased a $9.6 million purse. While the leaderboard remained crowded heading into the final rounds, the buzz on the range was centered on Brooks Koepka, who made a rare pre-Masters appearance on the PGA Tour to sharpen his iron play. Meanwhile, across the globe in Singapore, "Asia’s Major"—the HSBC Women’s World Championship—teed off at Sentosa Golf Club, featuring a powerhouse field including world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul and a resurgent Lydia Ko.
The week also carried the lingering echoes of a major storyline from the LIV Golf circuit, as fans continued to celebrate Anthony Kim’s emotional victory in Adelaide—his first professional win in over 15 years. This resurgence has injected a fresh wave of nostalgia and excitement into the sport, even as the DP World Tour moved its focus to the Investec South African Open. Between the high-stakes drama in Palm Beach and the global elite gathering in Singapore, it was a week that proved golf’s new landscape is as diverse as it is competitive, with every fairway offering a potential redemption story.

A Week of Glitz and "Glow-Ups"
The entertainment world was buzzing this week with the official kickoff of the 2026 Awards Season sprint, as final ballots were cast for the upcoming Oscars (March 15, 2026 at 7:00 PM EDT). The narrative of the week, however, belonged to the surprise announcement of a multi-city "Legacy Tour" by a legendary 90s pop collective, sending ticket platforms into a pre-sale frenzy that reminded everyone nostalgia is still the most powerful currency in Hollywood. On the digital front, streaming giants reported a massive surge in "slow cinema" viewership, signaling a shift in audience appetite toward prestige limited series over high-octane action blocks.
Meanwhile, the red carpet at the Milan Fashion Week finales saw a crossover event for the ages, as several A-list actors skipped the traditional studio junkets to debut collaborative sustainable lines. This fusion of high fashion and environmental advocacy has become the week's most-talked-about "vibe shift," proving that being a "triple threat" in 2026 now includes being a creative director. From the recording booth to the runway, the industry is leaning hard into authenticity, trading polished perfection for raw, artist-driven storytelling that resonates far beyond the screen.

Pour Over Life
The Art of the Reveal
This week, as we watch the steam rise from our mugs, we’re exploring the bitter notes of a complex brew. Let’s call it social deception. In a world of high-stakes diplomacy and shifting global alliances, like the debut of the new Board of Peace, trust often serves as currency, while manipulation serves as a guide. But is there a "higher standard" hidden in the shadows of a secret?
In strategy, the "social engineer" doesn’t always act with bad intent. Sometimes, they have a mission. Think of the investigator who uses a "white lie" to catch a criminal or the negotiator who pretends not to care to secure a life-saving deal. They know trust isn’t just a feeling; it’s a key part of the structure. When you change how people see a situation, you’re not just shifting the "vibe"; you’re testing the strength of the foundation.
To reach a higher standard, sometimes we have to navigate the darker sides of human nature. We use deception to protect, trust to build, and sometimes a little acting to uncover truths no one wants to say out loud.
However, there is a delicate balance in the pour. Over-extract the coffee, and it becomes undrinkable. Overuse deception, and the person you become is a stranger to the person you started as. The goal isn't to live a lie; it’s to understand the architecture of the truth so well that you can navigate the maze others have built around it.
I can’t help bringing this cup to the rim. Remember, the true mastery isn’t about fooling others. It’s about knowing when wearing a “mask” helps your goal and having the courage to remove it once you’ve reached the top. If you use manipulation to get an answer, make sure it’s worth the trust you risk.
