Welcome to Sunday in a Sip. It's January 4th, 2026. Yesterday started the January Super full moon, called The Wolf Moon. It’s thought that January’s Full Moon came to be known as the Wolf Moon because wolves were more likely to be heard howling at this time. It was traditionally believed that wolves howled due to hunger during winter, but we know today that isn’t accurate. Howling and other wolf vocalizations are heard in the wintertime to locate pack members, reinforce social bonds, define territory, and coordinate hunting.

As 2025 closes, the U.S. economy eyes a "soft landing" amid cooling hiring. Globally, green energy pacts offer hope despite geopolitical tension. Domestically, winter storms tested infrastructure while the NFL playoff race tightened. In Hollywood, original sci-fi topped the box office as a major 2026 reunion tour was teased.

U.S. news centered on new sanctions on Venezuela and Iran, debate over long-term Ukraine security aid, and intense scrutiny of AI’s impact on jobs and elections as markets ended the year cautiously optimistic A year of resilience ends, setting the stage for a high-stakes 2026.

The U.S. Economy

A Year-End Reality Check.

As 2025 winds down, the American economy is catching its breath. This week’s data showed a cooling labor market, with hiring slowing just enough to keep the Fed in a "wait-and-see" posture for the new year. While holiday spending didn’t break records, it remained resilient, fueled by a steady decline in gas prices and a slight uptick in consumer confidence. The big question for 2026? Whether the "soft landing" we’ve been chasing is finally firm ground or just a temporary plateau.

World News

Diplomatic Decembers.

Globally, the focus remained on the shifting alliances in Eastern Europe and the Middle East as the year closed. High-level climate summits in the final week of December saw unexpected breakthroughs in green energy financing for developing nations, a rare moment of unity in a fractured geopolitical landscape. Meanwhile, several nations in the Global South reported record-breaking economic growth, signaling a potential shift in the global balance of power as we head into the second half of the decade.

U.S. News

Nature and Infrastructure Take Center Stage.

From coast to coast, the final week of the year was defined by a mix of record-breaking winter storms in the Rockies and a significant legislative push for domestic infrastructure. In Washington, the conversation turned toward the 2026 midterm cycle, but the immediate reality for many Americans was navigating travel delays and localized flooding. Amidst the chaos, a renewed national focus on grid stability emerged as the primary resolution for state governments in the coming year.

Sports

The Playoff Push and New Year’s Traditions.

The sports world is currently a whirlwind of high stakes. In the NFL, the playoff picture is finally crystallizing, with a few "Cinderella" teams clinching berths in dramatic, last-minute fashion this week. On the collegiate side, the Bowl season is in full swing, providing the usual dose of pageantry and overtime thrills. Basketball fans also got a treat with a series of high-scoring marquee matchups, proving that the mid-season grind is where the real stars separate themselves from the pack.

The World of Entertanimant

The Final Curtain of 2025.

Hollywood spent the week celebrating the big winners of the holiday box office, with an original sci-fi epic surprisingly outperforming established franchises. On the small screen, "Best of the Year" lists dominated the conversation, sparking heated debates across social media. A massive music world reunion tour slated for 2026, giving fans exactly the kind of nostalgia-fueled excitement needed to ring in the New year. The Rush "Fifty Something" Tour. Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson officially announced the "Fifty Something" Tour, a massive 58-show run across North America and Mexico. This marks the band's first tour since their 40th-anniversary shows in 2015 and their first since the passing of iconic drummer Neil Peart in 2020. They will be joined by acclaimed drummer Anika Nilles to celebrate over five decades of their music.

Pour Over Life

The real Challenge.

So you woke up, it is now 2026, and It doesn’t feel any different, does it?

Waking up at the same time. Eating the same breakfast. Reaching for the same phone before your feet hit the floor.

We were irritated by the same things, carried the same attitude, and quietly resigned ourselves to the same version of the world.

And just like that, the new year arrived. Right. it’s 2026, not with a jolt, not with a revelation, but with repetition.

Old patterns slipped effortlessly into a brand-new calendar.

So here’s the honest question worth sitting with this Sunday morning.

Why are we doing this?

Why do we announce a new year while insisting on living the old life?
Why do we say we want change but protect our comfort like it’s sacred?

Maybe it’s because change asks something of us.
Not hope.
Not intention.
Not resolutions written with a fresh pen.

Do you want to change?

Change asks for commitment.

Real change doesn’t happen because the year changes. It happens because we do.

So why not try something new, yes, truly new?
Why not really get after it in 2026?

Not louder goals, but deeper ones.
Not more motion, but more meaning.

Challenge yourself.

Become the person you’ve always known you could be, but haven’t yet required yourself to become.

Build resilience instead of excuses. Establish habits that last longer than motivation. Strengthen relationships by showing up differently, not just more often.
Deepen your perspective by choosing growth over familiarity.

2026 doesn’t need another promise.

It needs action.

It needs purpose.

It needs courage practiced daily, not announced annually.

Here my sippers is the simple truth.

If nothing changes, nothing changes.

But if you do, I really mean it if you do anything even slightly, even imperfectly, everything can.

Make 2026 the year you stop waiting to feel different and start being different.
