The 67th Annual Grammy Awards
Kendrick Lamar ( Today’s Halftime Show stopper) and Beyoncé strutted away with some shiny new hardware. Beyoncé probably has to build an extra wing in her house just to store all her Grammys. At this point, even her trophies need a trophy case. I had a enjoyable evening watching this years night of music. I started the night watching the red carpet. I couldn’t believe how many women were blurred out. I that I was watching and episode of “Naked and Afraid.” Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock paid tribute to Quincy Jones, showcasing their respect and admiration for the music legend. Both Legends themselves Stevie and Herbie had a memorable moment performing Toots Thielemans "Bluesette" with Stevie on harmonica, and Herbie on the grand piano. I really felt Quincy smiling down on them, what a moment.
U.S. TARIFF TANTRUM
Trump Slams Canada, Mexico, and China with New Tariffs. 25% on Canada and Mexico, 10% on China. But wait, Canada and Mexico get a 30-day reprieve. Meanwhile the The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) temporarily suspended accepting packages from China and Hong Kong following President Trump's decision to impose a 10% tariff on Chinese imports and eliminate the "de minimis" exemption. (This exemption previously allowed goods valued under $800 to enter the U.S. without duties.) Then a few hours later the Postal Service resumed accepting packages from these regions, working closely with Customs and Border Protection to establish an efficient tariff collection system. So if you’re ordering from Amazon, Etsy, or TEMU, delivery times may be longer, due to all their packages coming from China are now subject to customs inspections.
Oil and Gas Prices Drop Dramatically on Trade War Fears.
Oil prices slip as demand concerns grow. The threat of a prolonged trade war between China and the U.S. that has sparked demand fears and pushed prices down. China imposes 15% tariffs on U.S. coal and LNG. Oil prices could drop below $70 per barrel for WTI and $74 per barrel for Brent in the near term if trade tensions continue to escalate and demand remains weak, seeing $60 a barrel by the end of the year.

Economy
The annual inflation rate was 2.9%, and the core inflation rate was 3.2%. The next inflation report, which will provide data for January 2025, is scheduled to be released on February 12, 2025.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) made significant revisions to previous job growth data, indicating that the economy added fewer jobs in 2024 than initially reported.
This revision reduced the average monthly job growth from approximately 242,000 to about 173,000 for the period from March 2023 to March 2024. The revision suggests that the U.S. economy's job growth was weaker than initially reported, which can affect assessments of economic vitality and policy decisions
Not to be unexpected the U.S. economy added 143,000 jobs in January, which was fewer than the expected 170,000 jobs based on forecasts from economists. The unemployment rate decreased to 4%, down from 4.1% in December.
MADE IN JAPAN
Japan's PM Shigeru Ishiba vows to boost U.S. investments to a whopping $1 trillion, aiming to strengthen economic ties with America. This massive influx could reshape the U.S. business landscape, but will it pay off? Sure, It’s a hedge against China. A stronger U.S.-Japan economic partnership could counterbalance China's growing economic dominance.
Pour Over Life
The world has fallen into a bad habit. I call it BWT (black-and-white thinking). It’s like watching a bad soap opera where everyone is either a hero or a villain, and there’s no room for anything in between. This mindset fuels conflict everywhere, from global crises to dinner table debates. But life isn’t a math problem with one right answer. Being non-judgmental means embracing the messy, complicated, and sometimes contradictory nature of people. So, let’s trade our gavels for curiosity.
Curiosity pushes us to consider all possibilities. When we’re curious, we ask questions like a detective on a big adventure searching for clues, exploring different ideas, and figuring out the best answer. It’s like solving a puzzle. Instead of just grabbing the first piece that looks right, we try them all until we find the perfect fit. Curiosity helps us think smarter, see the whole picture, and make better choices. When we stay curious, we’re more likely to make well-informed, balanced choices instead of just clinging to what we already believe.
Understanding beats judgment every time. —like picking the best piece of cake (which is always the biggest one, of course)!
